The motel I stayed in last night didn’t have internet service, so I’m combining rides for yesterday and today. Yesterday, I left from Navasota with a goal of riding to Shepherd. Didn’t make it that far and stayed over at Coldspring. I had a lot of headwinds in the morning and the rolling Texas hills, but the afternoon was nice. It was cool pretty much all day. There was a 2 mile stretch where they were re-doing the roads and had traffic narrowed to one lane. The day became even cooler when a construction water spraying truck drove by and sprinkled me. I saw him in my mirror and thought, surely he’ll turn it off as he passes me. Nope. Today started out with headwinds again, but they calmed down after an hour or so. The rest of today’s ride was warm and mostly level or downhill.
Here’s the maps from yesterday and today and pix too.
A bird housery.
The ride both days was on Farm Roads. With a speed limit of 70!
You can get an idea of the rolling hills here.
An oil pipeline.
Some cool looking old buildings in Richards.
The Sam Houston National Park.
A pretty rock entry to a McMansion.
Anyone need any extra Australian Shepherd Puppies?
Funny, I never saw any North American Wood Apes.
Huge pine forests.
Lake Conroe.
I had to move him out of the road.
A swampy looking area.
Part of the Texas Big Thicket area. It once covered more than a million acres and was nearly impenetrable.
This horse had a bird friend. It looked like an egret.
Tomorrow will either be a 40 mile ride to Kirbyville or an 80+ mile ride to DeRidder, depending on the weather and me.

Wow, I missed a couple days and you’re almost done with Texas! Was that turtle your first encounter with a critter? Have you pitched tent along roadside any lately? What about any more warm showers hosts? I guess getting sprayed with dirty water is better than sprayed shit,eh? Oh wait, I think that happened to you in past! Anyhoo safe travels!
Yes, the turtle was my first animal contact. No camping for a while. No warm showers for a while, I’d rather stay in cheap motels if I can find ’em. And dirty water is definitely better.
Some horses have no egrets. Haha! Love you!
Singing horses: Egrets, I’ve had a few; but then again, too few to mention.
