Woohoo, I passed the 500 mile mark! Tomorrow, I hope to make Pensacola. I may stay an extra day there for rest and sight seeing. I’m staying in a campground called River’s Edge campground. It’s very nice and quiet. There’s a laundry here too and I’m taking advantage of that while I do this update. I’m glad I didn’t ship my camping equipment back, I would have been sleeping under a bridge somewhere. Guess I’ll hang on to the gear.
Now for the pix of the day:
Today (Wednesday), I decided enough was enough with the beard. Way too hot. I went to Walmart and picked up a cheap trimmer and voila, skint! I also picked little compressed air boat horn that bikers coming east have told me to use against the little yappy dogs that are particularly annoying. They’re also dangerous if they chase you and get caught in your spokes. Bad news for rider and dog!
I had to go back through DeFuniak to continue my ride and I’m so glad I did. I skipped the Adventure Cycling route around the springs, so I thought I would pick up where it started. It is SO pretty. A big round lake in the middle of town with a ton of historic and beautiful new homes all fronting the lake. I saw a sign in the hotel about the lake that said it was one of only two natural lakes in the world that were perfectly round. I’ll investigate more on that. Maybe it’s a crater formed lake.
Most of the pix were taken while I was riding, so you’ll have to forgive the crummy framing on some of them.
I snapped this dude riding around the lake. I caught him again later and I think he became annoyed. Here’s where I think he became annoyed.
The lake level was very high because of the recent storms. There’s a walkway right at the edge of the lake and it was completely underwater.
The town was founded by an L&N vice president, Mr. DeFuniak. Heyoka and I hung out waiting for a ride, but the rest of the train never showed up.
I ate lunch here. It was delicious. I stopped there because that was my cat’s name.
Lily made it look nice and homey.
My humble abode.
The shadow looked cooler than the photo turned out.
This way to Niceville. Whoville is in the other direction.

Awesome Lee,glad you are having a great time. It will be close to 90 or 90 today in little ole Virginia so you are not missing cool temps!
At a glimpse I thought you’d lost a lot of weight. Hair & beard! But I’m sure you’ve lost a few pounds as well. Have you weighed along the way? Enjoy your posts, and all is well here as far as I know.
Been annoying fellow cyclists?! Haha! I enjoyed seeing your photos today, especially some of the old Federal style houses. Lilly would’ve loved her café, too. You didn’t go for a visit in Niceville? Love you!
So now you won’t have to worry about beard hair getting in your eyes while you’re riding. You could’ve put it in a pony tail too! haha
Glad you didn’t send back your camping gear, wouldn’t want you under a bridge! So was Lily’s favorite dish ‘catch of the day’ or did she keep that for herself? As for the train, you & Heyoka didn’t get the memo that you were suppose to tow the caboose behind you?
Suzette has been posting some of your blogs on facebook. I cant tell you how much I have enjoyed them. Have a safe journey!
Lee,
The beards trimmed close, was wondering when the heat may get to be to much. Keep the pony tail and enjoy the white sands of Pensacola.
Thanks Donnie, I’m actually enjoying a margarita watching a storm brew in view of the white sands of Orange Beach, Alabama!
