I had a good first day. I ended up riding 51.3 miles. I was spent at 40 and asked my GPS to route me to a campground that was 3 miles away. Instead it took me 10 miles out of the way! When I realized the Garmin was playing an evil joke on me, I used my iPhone to route me to the nearest Best Western and lucked out with a ground level room there. You can see the 10 mile loop at the bottom of the map. Then on top of that, Heyoka got all mad about it and bit me.
Today, I left around 10 a.m. Rode through St. Augustine and only had to ask for directions 3 times.
Here’s on the road. Somewhere on a Florida country road. Pretty boring for awhile!
I tried to take a moving shot of some egrets, but regretfully, they didn’t show up in the picture. I stopped at Molasses Junction and had a delicious pork butt bbq and fries & a cookie.
Here’s the Molasses Junction restaurant.
This was along the St. Johns river. I love the moss hanging from the trees.
More boring farmland, but very pretty.
If you look in the middle of the picture, you can see an egret.
Heyoka got mad, because we went 10 miles extra due to GPS failure to find the campground.
So, instead of camping, I’m staying at the Best Western in East Palotka. Here’s the restaurant next door where I dined.
I had the fish you see in the background. Really hungry.

This is awesome! Be safe, have fun!
glad you had a good start. tell Heyoka & Garmin that there will be a tally of bad behavior along the way and punishments to be dealt with after returning safely home. Maybe heyoka will think before he bites you again & garmin will be more accurate. be safe!
Just be glad you got that detour in flat Florida! Just think if you’d gotten rerouted in the Rockies!
Enjoyed time with Dick today, he even rode with me. Had lunch and we will do it again soon. Enjoy, but rest when you need to, and be aware of your surroundings, suspicious characters, etc. :-). All the things you would say to your daughter.
Yeah, flat ain’t always flat, when you’re loaded with 50+ pounds of gear! I’m going to jettison some stuff today.
I’m impressed Uncle Lee. Safe travels!
