Well, AT&T pretty much sucks in this here part of the country. I’m having to save up my photos until I make it to hotels with good internet service.
Yesterday, I rode from Blythe, CA to Brenda, AZ. I got to Brenda too late to check in at the RV park/motel. They close the front desk at 3 pm! I tracked down the manager in the RV park and she said, sorry, you’re out of luck. So, I rode back a little bit to eat supper at a little diner and ran into a bunch of snowbirds. They were all friendly and I met another Lee, who advised me to just camp in the desert. He said it was a safe area and was free. I rode out a ways into the desert and set up camp and it was peaceful and quite a starry night. Here’s the map for yesterday and you can click on it for details:
And here’s the map for today.
Starting out yesterday from Blythe was nice.
Rough roads leaving California.
Crossing the Colorado River into Arizona The Colorado
Getting ready to ride on I-10
Into Arizona
Here’s a yacht club in the middle of the desert.
Entering Brenda, AZTamara from Colorado. A snowbird I stopped to ask about the motel that ended up being closed. All the birds travel around on 4 wheelers to and from their RVs.
Here’s Lee and Ann from Boise. They advised me to rough it and camp in the desert. Good idea.
Some more snowbirds. All friendly.
And here looks like as good a spot as any to set up camp.
Got everything set up just in time to watch the last of the setting sun.
Pictures from today:
Heyoka saying goodbye to his cactus friend.
Phat Jack
Phat Jack’s Restaurant. Ate a breakfast burrito with the snowbirds.
Close encounter?
Arizona’s canal project
They could spend some of that canal money on the roads.
Entering Hope, AZ
Abandoning Hope (and grammar)
Heyoka with his new friend Rusty.
At last, Salome.
Had a beer and fish dinner here. Good food. Staying here at Sheffler’s motel. Nice place right out of Rt. 66
The Adventure Cycling group beat me here. I was lucky to get a room.

Lee,I would been afraid Mr Rattlesnake was lonely and wanted a sleeping buddy under the cactus,be careful and I’m with you on my laptop.
I agree, I would’ve been terrified!
so there’s at least 2 crazy Lee’s! I agree with Calvin, I’d been terrified about that! did you put Heyoka in the tent with you? did heyoka enjoy the horsey on his back? heyoka needs to set up his own facebook page and add his new friends, cactus, rusty, phat jack, and rest of dogs from SD dog park and more to come along the journey.
hey you should’ve mounted a go pro camera on heyoka! oh, what’s the name of the mouse riding with ya? (don’t look like mickey). safe travels!
Yeah, I had to kill three rattlesnakes just to have enough for dinner! And I thought the shadow looked more like an alien, but I guess it looked like a mouse too.
